Sri Lanka Aviation service completes 101 years.

Today is the International Civil Aviation Day. Sri Lanka's Civil Aviation completes 101 years of existence. Minister Priyankara Jayaratne issuing a message in this connection says that Sri Lanka is in a position to be satisfied of its achievements in this sector. The country which had successfully tested a flight in 1912, is presently engaged in competitive worldwide airline services.

The national airline is performing a significant task in the national economic development. The number of aircraft in the national career, the Sri Lankan Airlines is being gradually increased. Minister Jayaratne says that the Mihin Lanka Airlines is also rendering an exceptional service.

East German Interflug flew to CMB from Berlin in the late 80's

Does anyone know about the Swissair schedule to CMB

I remember the Swissair schedule up until the time it ended in 1987. It was a twice weekly DC10 service.
Once weekly ZRH-KHI-CMB-SIN-JKT, and once weekly ZRH-GVA-KHI-CMB-SIN.

I don't recall Interflug ever flying to Sri Lanka. Did Sri Lanka have an air services agreement with East Germany?

Air France took over UAT around 1993. However AOM took over Air France around 1996.

Wow Thanks for the pic! AOM Minerve used to operate twise weekly IW923/924 flights on ORY-CMB-SYD-NOU onboard DC10. AOM used to operate Colombo for quite a long time some thing like 1992 until 2001. After AOM ceased the operations in 2001, SriLankan took delivery of ex-AOM A343s 4R-ADE and ADF in 2003.

2 747-200s were leased from QF during the 80s ULE and ULF King Tissa and Vijeya. they were returned back.
L1011s were returned as well. 1 -2 went to Air Transat, 1 - 2 converted to Cargo, Rest were scrapped.

Its very weird that media people in Sri Lanka does not recognize this aircraft. This is home built aircraft named as Lihiniya by Ray Wijewardana. No idea how this in ended up with CSN inventory.

It's actually the Catalina Grill at Koggala, just in front of the runway, near the road and the rail tracks.

How many of these HS 748s were operated by SLAF / Sri Lanka Aviation in the past ? By looking at the history of HS 748. Lion Air's 4R-LPV joined the South Africa based firm in 2004. Air Ceylon's 4R-ACJ was damaged in 1978. Ex-Aero Lanka's 4R-SER now stored in SLAF museum.

4R-SER was not stored in the museum, it was sold to another airline long back. I'll post a photo of it after it had been painted at Ratmalana.
