the A 330-300s were ordered as interim .. till the 787's and 350's

Do you know how many A340-500s are in total in SQ fleet ? Do you think Changi has got enough space to handle this fleet expansion ? http://www.airliners.net/photo//2162...1469a8c2147705
Well, beyond the current terminal, just looking at runway capacity, Singapore already has a new runway, as below:

A new parallel runway 02R/20L was built, to the east of 02C/20C, currently used only by Republic of Singapore Air Force aircraft as part of Changi Airbase (East). The new runway is expected to be extended and eventually be turned into a third runway for the airport in future expansion plans.

Changi is on reclaimed land, and if they decide to merge the new third runway to the current terminal / infrastructure, well, they got a lot of space to play around with ..

Oh, when recently somebody asked the Changi Operations Group CEO whether there is enough space to park the SIA planes, his response was crisp : planes make money in the air, not when they are parked .. so based on growth and expansion, sure .. we can accommodate them unless they decide not to Fly

For Some idea on the available space ..

The space in Green is the current SIN, the area in Red is the new Runway, already in Operation as an AF Base, and if needed, to be merged into SIN !!!

OK. Thanks. Boeing is now firm on first 787-9s deliveries to NZ in the second half of 2014. I believe these B787s will replace their ageing B767s and B747s in the fleet. Do you know how many B787s are ordered by NZ ?

        • Hi Banu, NZ is the launch customer for Boeing’s larger 787-9 variant. Total of 10 787-9s are on the order and they will be used to replace 767-300ERs on medium-haul international routes.

They only have 2 747-400s left in the fleet and will be retired soon.

Umedha, Where does NZ fly it's B744s to ? When I fly to LHR I always see NZ B744 and B773 at the Remote parking area. But these days NZ brings only B777s to LHR. I think NZ operates double daily flights to LHR. First Daily is AKL-HKG-LHR by B772 and Second Daily is AKL-LAX-LHR by B773.

            • Singapore Airlines celebrates fifth anniversary of A380 services

Singapore Airlines celebrates another milestone today as it marks the fifth anniversary of Airbus A380 services.

SIA now operates 19, A380s to 10 destinations around the world, including Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Sydney, Tokyo and Zurich. "We are pleased to celebrate the A380's fifth anniversary of services today. Our A380 fleet has been a perennial customer favourite and will continue to play a significant role in our network," said SIA's Executive Vice-President Commercial, Mak Swee Wah.

A spokesman for the Airline said, "Over the past five years, SIA has carried more than nine million customers over 24,000, A380 flights and clocked approximately 240,000 hours. To commemorate this occasion, SIA presented a gift pack of A380 collectibles to customers on all A380 flights to and from Singapore on October 25." As part of the A380 fifth anniversary celebrations, SIA also launched a contest in August for a chance to be on the delivery flight of the Airline's 19th A380 from Airbus' headquarters in Toulouse, France.

              • Hi Banu,
NZ still uses their remaining 2 744s in AKL - SFO route as NZ008 on days 1 2 4 5 of the week.
Thats the only route that they use their 744s at the moment.

Also you right LHR flights via HKG and LAX are operated by the 777s

                    • And on the worlds' longest flghts .. even at 8,000 $ a seat, they couldn't justify the cost of so many crew members .. I guess.

Singapore Airlines announced it will end the longest-distance flight, which travels to Newark, New Jersey, and the one to Los Angeles, which is the longest by duration.

A little anecdote - one of the flights - when you flew - you depart, say on a Monday, and arrive on a Sunday .. and return, you depart on A Monday and arrive on a Tuesday .. due to crossing of the IDL

                          • umedhah: Tiger with DJ ? is that even possible, as DJ and TR fight all the time ?? And 3K is an additional pain in the butt for the other two

BTW, SQ picked a 10% stake in DJ .. so I don't know how it will pan out .. as TR and Scoot are fully owned by SQ
