          Dont get me wrong...unions are part of the democratic process. But in Sri Lanka they exceed their mandate of employment negotiations to management policies/decision making
          Statistically, France has had more trade union action, disruptions and protests than SL, if you take out the protests instigated by the ungrateful so-called university students in SL.

          I differ with you on the need for trade unions and their disruptive tactics this day and age due to two reasons.

          1. To air your grievances you do not need to disrupt the economic process or block traffic on the street. All it took UA to lose almost a Billion dollars in market value and the storm of excrement that ensued was a 40 second cell phone video. In the age of social media, there are many ways to get your case out in the public without economic and social disruptions.

          2. Every trade union action victimizes a wrong and innocent party. Take (almost) monthly AF strikes. The victims are always the unassuming and gullible passengers.

          Society will have to device a way to handle these grievances and replace the archaic model based on trade unions.

            living in US make think health care is privileged and union in anarchic... but in Canada and Europe they work perfectly

                Actually, I said the unions are archaic, not anarchic

                Secondly, did you see what happened yesterday at AZ?

                Management, EY and the union leaders agreed on a last ditch attempt to save the airline and a USD 2B recap plan, but the union members voted against it. Now it looks like Chap 11 (or whatever they call it in Italy) and mass job losses appear to be the only option.

                We live in a time when the very essence of democracy itself is in doubt. Case in point: Brexit, Trump and possibly Le Pen!

                  So, in addition to the start/resumption of services by UL to MEL, HYD, CJB, and VTZ, there is also a likely resumption of service to FRA... is there any more news about services to the other destinations that were talked about, recently (i.e. AMD, SLL, RGN, and JNB)?

                  About the UL fleet - I assume that by mid-2018, UL will have seven 333s, three 332s, seven 321s, and seven 320s (twenty-four aircraft in total)... am I correct?
                  If that is so, then it would be good if the three 332s (ALJ, ALH, and ALS) can all have the same seat configuration; it would also be nice if MRE and MRD could be painted and re-configured to, respectively, be like some of the other 320s and 321s that are already in the fleet.

                        The website is last updated in 2016. Its appear to be it was planning to fly Berlin-Colombo, Munich-Colombo and Frankfurt-Colombo in Summer 2017 with B777-200 charter from Meridian Air. There is no sign of flight booking for Colombo at all. When its exactly planning to fly Colombo?

                          By looking at the above expansion plans, it looks like UL is not going to lease 3 x A333 to different operator and UL may have failed the court case for defending the renewal of lease of 3 old A332s. So UL have to keep the 3 x old A332 until the new lease expire. May be they are thinking to have below fleet after 4 x A321neo and 1 x A332 join the fleet, by end of this year / early 2018.

                                SriLankan Airlines from mid-July 2017 plans to expand operational frequencies for Colombo – Delhi route, currently served on daily basis. From 15JUL17, the airline will increase from 7 to 11 weekly, with new red-eye/early-morning service.

                                Hong Kong

                                SriLankan Airlines in recent weeks made additional changes to planned Colombo – Hong Kong nonstop operation, effective from 15JUL17. The oneWorld member now plans to operate 5 weekly flights with Airbus A321 aircraft, instead of 4. Previously reported on Airlineroute, the airline’s new non-stop service will replace existing 3 weekly 1-stop A330 operation via Bangkok.
