First UL need the right people in the Management (Appoint the CEO who have vey good experience in managing an airline). It's a big mistake they are doing by down-sizing the network it will cause them loosing the transit pax traffic.

Cancelling A350 order could be A good idea but UL has to lease more A320ceos in the fleet and quickly start expanding to new regional destinations in India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Myanmar etc.. I think again UL is doing the mistake by planning to lease NEOs which are 10 mil USD expensive than CEOs.

Start by tackling the Racketeering and the Racketeers at the National Level. Without ending the rampant theft, fraud and corruption everything else is a waste of time imho.

Otherwise the country is just going to become another failed state. (Personal opinion - that's already the case).

Please no more aircraft orders - it's just a way for the Racketeers to make $$$ Millions at the expense of the people of Sri Lanka.

There is no way to save UL - best option is to close it down ASAP.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

Agreed...that is partially correct. Best option is closing UL down completely and demonopolization of AASL. AASL would be the next battleground...it is already heading in the same direction as the Sri Lankan Port Authority...saddling with heavy debt (thanks to HRI) and over staffed. MR and his administration is completely responsible for this fiasco.

Sri Lankan aviation industry can be summed up as...how to lose money on a monopoly.

GOSL cannot run any airlines...They tried with Air Ceylon then AirLanka and then took over EK managed Sri Lankan. With a socialist attitude; nepotism, militant unions and their political masters, corruption, sleaze, peddling half truths, pork barrel spending and the latest addition to the list fake patriotism...they tried to run an airline business since independence, only ended up with is driving it into the ground. recapitalization will only prolong the inevitable.

Yes, but this has always been like this. Airbus does not include the leased aircraft. Same for THAI for example.

May be UL hasn't cancel the direct order for 4 x A350s with Airbus?

If they have any sense they would have at least delayed the final assembly until they they can offload the slots to someone else (or delay it indefinitely like VS and their 380s, Airbus might allow them to transfer the deposits to something else).

Its not too late to cancel direct order. 4 of those A350s which were UL ordered directly from Airbus are not yet in the production as deliveries are due after 2019/2020. Obviously another 4 of A350s ordered on Lease from Aercap had to be now sub-leased to another airline operator or lessor. Leased MSN52, MSN55, MSN60 were already been assembled and MSN171 already in production waiting to be assembled in 2017.

Latest I've heard is that the deal with Turkish has fallen through.

Any journalists reading here? This is quite a story - a few profit at the expense of the entire country.

Aercap won't respond to my requests for information on this deal.

Maybe UL cancelled the order but Airbus hasn't removed it yet from its order book. Same happened for the conversion of 2 AirFrance A380s into 3 A350s. This has been revealed in the AirFrance finacial report of last year but hasn't been changed in the official order book.

I wouldn't rely on the video; MSN52 would not have been painted in white if it has to be delivered in november this year.
