Still under negotiations and nothing has been finalized.

There are more problems than solutions…..

    1. Presently airline employed 7,021 staff to service 24 aircraft, a staff to plane ratio of 292 for each aircraft.

    2. No foreign partner in sight, so almost no investment.

    3. UL spends around US$ 10 million a month on leases, no cancellation clauses in the lease agreements.

    4. Total staff costs stands at US$ 2.2 million, not sustainable.

    5. UL spending US$ 60 million in interest on loans.

Almost no value to sell & without changing the cost structure, the airline was not viable, there are no easy solutions……

There's a very simple and extremely effective solution - close it down! The quicker the better imho.

    It's the only option left.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

it is not mandatory to have a national airline...government should not be in any commercial enterprise...they should be implementing policies and protecting the consumer and tax payer

When does the ex-Mihin A320 & A321 are going to be returned to the lessors? I can notice that the both birds (MRD & MRE) are still in operation for UL flights, as per FR24.

I read from the news, UL is definitely not going to take those four A350 and going to negotiate on the purchase agreement. It makes sense UL to have three A330 and rest as A320 family series for the replacement of four A350.

Why UL should be getting A339neo instead of A333? Isn't that A333 is cheaper than A339neo and also A333 is just fit for the current UL network. I think the difference on seating capacity is around 30 seats on UL style J/Y config. UL is already flying A333 to short haul routes like TRV, BLR, COK etc..

You could start another airline at a tiny fraction of the cost associated with keeping UL running in its current form.

It could also be 100% private - no risk for the taxpayer. If there is a viable market someone will step in.

Run it like a business - free of corruption and with the proper safeguards in place.

Hire people who know what they are doing instead of the current corrupt/useless government appointees.

Winter season starts end of this month. Austrian is resuming Colombo flights on the 25-Oct and Royal Flight is resuming on the 27-Oct. Both flights will be operated onboard B767. KLM, Thompson etc.. would resume from Nov. Does anyone have the list of seasonal flights operating in Winter 2017?

CMB - MEL UL flights - why are they using A332 and NOT A333. Only inaugural flight is marked as A333...

That's because of the difference in lease costs - the route will definitely lose money using an A333.

It looks like they are hoping the lower lease costs of the A332 will make the route profitable. I don't think this will be a money maker as there is no market to support 5 flights/week.

A333 on the inaugural flight because it will be loaded with Politicians and other freeloading Scum.
