    Hello,

I overheard it's going to fly in Europe but not sure about the accuracy of the information. ADE is in the last phase of lease return check and it is supposed to conclude by 05th of October. However usually it takes at least 3-5 days more than expected as these are pretty old aircrafts. Then we have the visit of owner and the next buyer of the aircraft. They point out their findings and then again minor maintenance should be carried out to fix them.
Hopefully everything will be finalised by the second week of October.

    Cheers

UL would have had to absorb all these costs - they submitted a bill earlier this year (seemed a bit low to me). Now it's all gone strangely quiet once again.

To the best of my knowledge there are no current Aviation related investigations ongoing. That needs to change!
Didn't you guys write to the PRECIFAC?
My friend in the Ministry of Justice said that they have sent Auditors to investigate a corrupt project in the Ministry and now they are digging up even more cases.

The airlines faced worse stuff and needs proper investigations

Don't forget about MR and company's trip to Bolivia a few years back to attend a summit there. He flew CMB-CPT-VVI aboard one of UL's A340s with a large group of gov members. That certainly wouldn't have been a cheap venture. I guess flying there commercially would have been a long trip, but still.

I'm a victim of abuse of power at SriLankan Airlines.

I can't even get replies to my e-mails requesting clarification of events. There is a culture of impunity and zero accountability all the way up to the top.

I submitted everything I had to the Weliamuna Comission - no action has been taken against anyone mentioned in the report.

Lost cause at the moment. I'm waiting for more favourable conditions.

NEWS : SriLankan Airlines achieved the airline industry benchmark of on-time performance on 85.26% of its flights in August 2015, the result of a sustained effort throughout 2015 to improve punctuality, the National carrier said in a statement. SriLankan’s performance in August was ranked 16th out of 50 international airlines rated by the global flight data service Flightstats (www.flightstats.com). It placed SriLankan ahead of other reputed international airlines. SriLankan’s performance was not far off that of the 91.48% of first placed S7 Airlines of Russia.

“To improve our on-time performance was a key strategic initiative among my overall objectives, to enhance our product and service delivery. I am pleased that within a very short period of time the staff have all responded and rallied to this call, and delivered outstanding results. August is a peak month for us and to achieve this result during this period is an even more credible achievement,” said Rakhita Jayawardena, CEO of SriLankan Airlines.

On-Time Performance is a key performance indicator in an industry in which each airline tries to gain a competitive edge through higher standards in customer service.

SriLankan began 2015 with a less than desirable 66% of flights on-time, but quickly began to improve each month, recording over 80% in April, May, June and July. This achievement was the result of the professionalism of all departments involved with aircraft operations, together with support from SriLankan’s partners and service providers at its hub at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo and all its destinations around the world.

Do they really need a new CEO for SriLankan? I think UL's current CEO Mr. Rakhita Jayawardena has done a great job for our national airline. It seems to UL's COO position still to be filled. What's going to happen to Mr.Rakhita when Mr.Suren Ratwatte takeover the CEO position in end of Oct 2015. According to Airfinancejournal, Mr. Suren is a brother of the advisor to Sri Lanka’s prime minister. Very sad to see the way things are going.

                      • SriLankan for full re-fleet despite Rs 130 b loss- Report

                        By Chandani Kirinde

SriLankan Airlines (SLA) will embark on a re-fleeting programme despite its accumulated losses reaching a staggering Rs 130 billion by April this year.

In the first four months of this year alone, the Airline recorded a loss of Rs 4.9 billion, adding to its already heavy losses, according to the Midyear Fiscal Position Report of the Finance Ministry presented to Parliament recently.

However, the same report states that SLA will embark on a re-fleeting programme to replace the entire wide body fleet with a new fleet to improve operational efficiencies and provide modern passenger comforts with a view to attract around 55% of the passengers flying into Sri Lanka, while increasing its revenue to be a commercially viable entity.

The report also said that the Government has decided to prepare a viable and comprehensive business plan for SLA and Mihin Lanka Ltd, and amalgamate them due to the huge losses they have incurred.

During the first four months of this year, SLA’s revenue was Rs 39.6 billion, while its expenditure for the same period was Rs 44. 9 billion.

Meanwhile, the report revealed that the total foreign borrowings of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. (AASL) as at April 30, 2015 stood at Rs 35,747 million.

“The Company paid Rs 371 million for the first four months of the year, to service seven foreign loans obtained through the General Treasury.

AASL will commence servicing the loan of US$ 190 million for the construction of the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, in the future,” the report added.

AASL was able to record an operational profit of Rs 1,475 million in the first four months of the year, which is a 5% increase for the same period in 2014, the report said.

Looks like UL is going to go ahead with A350-941XWB order. Here is the delivery schedule. It's seems to be first A350 for UL will touch down in Sri Lanka in July-Aug 2016. Can't wait for that moment ! So UL will be the first airline to take delivery of A350 in South Asia?

AFAIK Rakhita is a successful businessman who started his career at UL. So I think it was his way of giving back to the company. I remember him even saying his appointment was only an interim one. That said I still think he is a director.

And it is sad that they appointed a pilot with no relevant managerial experience as CEO (Human Factors Manager is more lower level technical management). He seems like a very good pilot and will probably be better than the lot before Rakhita, but IMHO he shouldve been appointed as COO, not CEO. Its sad that he took this job on which will more than likely tarnish his good name. Happy if he proves me wrong in a year or two though!
