That's correct. Mahan Air to serve Tehran-Colombo with charter flights on the 19th and 26th March 2015 onboard Airbus A310-300. It must be the reason to transport Persian tourists to Sri Lanka. In the past Mahan Air operated schedule flights to Colombo from both Tehran and Bandar Abbas. Wish if they again resume the schedule flights to our Sri Lankan capital?

        • Kapila has left the building!

Someone was nice enough to forward me a copy of his farewell letter.

Good riddance! Hopefully the rest of the clowns will be kicked out in the coming days.

              SriLankan Airlines CEO resigns

Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines Kapila Chandrasena has resigned from his position yesterday.

The CEO had handed over his letter of resignation minutes after Senior Lawyer J.C. Weliamuna presented his first report on the national airline to Ports and Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.

The Ministry appointed a four- member committee to look into alleged malpractices and irregularities that occurred in SriLankan Airlines in the recent past. The committee was chaired by Attorney-at-Law J.C. Weliamuna, while U.H. Palihakkara, B.A.W. Abeywardena and M.K. Bandara served as committee members.

                    • Air India has been declared "sick" and slated to be shut down by the Indian government.

Now that the new administration in SL is taking cues from India, why not follow suit and save a fortune in public money?

These are most probably vacation charters for the long new year holiday (Norooz in Persian, 20 March- 02 April). There are lots of extra flights to Turkey and UAE as well during this time.

A airline whether it is LCC or not require aircrafts to manage its operations. It should have at least the minimum number of aircrafts. All depends on the operational routes and the passenger load factor. LCC should have their own strategies to survive in market. However, this should not be a burden to our national flag carrier.

a team of officials of Sri Lankan Airlines visited Vizag in 2012 to explore the possibility of flying out of here. They should be able to target on cargo as well as passengers to Far east and gulf.

are there any international airlines flying to Vizag?

SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka better focus only on the profitable routes. I can see SriLankan is maintaining the non profitable routes to Europe because one of our major markets is Europe. I think SriLankan should drop Rome and serve Milan instead and also unprofitable pilgrim flights to Gaya and Varanasi should be cancelled. SriLankan's cabin and service needs to be upgraded.
