Sri Lanka's Sakurai Aviation is getting down a turboprop NAMC YS-11 aircraft very soon. This will be used for charter services at VCBI, and will be the first YS-11 to operate in and out of Sri Lanka! Expect the arrival soon in the next few weeks.

I thought LHR-CMB will be one... but it is not...
I can notice UL's MEL flights are giving convenient connections for MAA, BOM, DEL, BLR, BKK. Daily Inbound flight from MLE & KHI and outbound flight to LHR over the weekends.

YES.. do not understand.. on what basis CMB-MEL and MEL-CMB flight schedules have decided.. no connecting flights to any of the favuorite destinations.. yahh
How UL can expect profits from new routes.. will Sri Lankan alone cobtribute load factor.. i'm highly doubtful..
Anyway.. can anyone CMB-MEL/MEL-CMB load factor..??

Official spokesperson Rajitha Senaratne faced a barrage of questions on the two airlines at the weekly news conference on Wednesday. Here are excerpts:
Q: Mihin Lanka is to be liquidated. Its debt amounts to more than Rs 4,868 million. It owes the People’s Bank Rs 1,100 million. The loans for SriLankan is Rs 1,500 million. What will happen to this debt?
A: These are loans from State banks and need to be paid. Only yesterday it was revealed that among the first Board of Directors have been Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Roshan Gunatilleke and Sajin Vass Gunawardena. Aircraft have been purchased without any tender procedures. Our government has been forced to take the burden of this debt.
Q: Are you looking into the reasons for the losses. It was mentioned that a Commission was being appointed
A: Without any feasibility report, the company was launched on a political decision. They appointed political henchmen. Going by the Board of Directors you can see this. They are not even those who tightened a nut in the aircraft. How can they make profits?
Q: Have you decided to appoint a Commission?
A: That was also discussed yesterday (Tuesday), about the appointment of a Commission.
Q: Will the licence be given to another agency.
A: That will remain open. After discussions in Qatar (during the President’s recent visit), a representative from there came here on Saturday itself. The discussions were concluded on Sunday and he returned on Monday saying he would return in two weeks’ time”.

There were also other significant issues that came up for discussion at last Tuesday’s weekly ministerial meeting.

Based on the comments above, maybe Qatar is looking to purchase Mihin's old AOC licence rather than help UL. Would make much more sense IMHO and they could even use it to deploy the A320s that were due to go to Al Maha.

Perhaps Qatar is fully aware of how 'Business' is done in Sri Lanka and will do the smart thing and stay well clear.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

Why 30 weekly fro Chennai and 26 weekly for Male and 21 weekly for Bangkok and Singapore?
Why can't it be reduced to 2 daily flights using A350s?(if SL had some)

Although not directly relevant on this thread, QR is to buy a 10% stake of CX. Looks like they are after much bigger fish than UL!!
